«Schumann is the composer of dreams. His music is perhaps the most personal of any.»
Steven Isserlis on Robert Schumann
Performances of Robert Schumann’s powerful Overture are as rare as representations of the source of its inspiration, Friedrich Schiller’s The Bride of Messina. Schumann captures this legendary tale in a highly expressive way: his taut and dramatic music enthrals every listener.
Schumann’s Concerto for Cello is also a work of great depth and passion. Steven Isserlis is celebrated for his interpretation of this work, which will take us on a journey through the concerto’s thrilling opening to its scintillating finale. In his Second Symphony, Schumann again demonstrates his artistry.
«It is one of the most dynamic and emotionally stirring symphonies of his entire repertoire», says conductor Paavo Järvi in an interview about his favourite Schumann symphony. This wonderful combination of works offers the perfect conclusion to the second Klosters Music Festival.
